For thousands of years coconut
oil has been used around the world as a food and pharmaceutical,
recognised as one of the most nutritious of oils.
This changed in 1954 and for
decades coconut oil was demonised as a "bad" saturated
fat. This ignored the fact that some saturated fat
is necessary for human health. Coconut oil is unique
due to its medium chain fatty acids, the closest to those found
in human breast milk. Medium chain fatty acids, or
MCT's, are more easily digested than fats found in other oils. These
are processed directly in the liver and converted into energy,
meaning less strain on our digestive system.
Virgin coconut oil is very stable
and very resistant to free radical generation when heated, even
at high temperatures. Pure virgin coconut oil is made
from fresh coconuts, not Copra, which is used in many coconut
oils. Copra oils have to be refined, bleached and deodorised
(RBD) to make them fit for human consumption, resulting in an
odourless and flavourless product.
The virgin coconut oil we offer
is fairly traded and is certified organic through the entire process,
growing, harvesting, production, repackaging and labelling. Any
oil not conforming to the above is not organic.
